德國新電影運動的開山作。猶太人阿妮塔的家庭受迫害，隻身一人逃到聯邦德國，希望在新的地方能尋找到更好的生活。但現實卻與她的想像格格不入。她因偷了同事毛衣而被判緩刑。為了生存，她不斷變換工作，到處流浪，得不到真正的幫助和感情，所品嚐到的隻是人情冷落和生活屈辱。
