年輕漂亮的美國女護士艾米·尼古拉斯（卡莉絲塔·弗洛克哈特 Calista Flockhart 飾）受命來到英國懷特島一家老舊的仁愛醫院，擔當這裏的夜班護士。此前，仁愛醫院的孩子們已經準備好轉到條件更為優秀的聖詹姆士醫院，但一場嚴重的火車事故導致聖詹姆士人滿為患，仁愛的搬遷計劃暫時擱淺。艾米抵達這裏，很快就注意到恬靜又有幾分神秘的小女孩麥琪（耶斯敏·墨菲 Yasmin Murphy 飾）。從麥琪的言語以及醫護人員的詭異舉止，艾米隱隱感到這所醫院隱藏著不為人知的秘密。而當夜幕降臨，恐怖的事情果然隨之發生……
